THREE SONGWRITERS

THREE SONGWRITERS

Kirklander Karen Story writes fun, folky songs about life, love, hurricanes, and road trips. She'll throw in a few familiar favorites as well. After singing in local blues, rock, jazz, and bluegrass bands for many years, Karen recently took up guitar so she could perform her original songs. Leave your cares at the door, and enjoy listening or singing along.

A familiar face at local open mics, Bill Baxter is a singer-songwriter who also lends his talents to the songwriting duo Blurry May and as one of the seven members of the hopelessly misnamed alt-rock cover band, Quatros Amigos. Having played guitar and mandolin since the late 80s, Bill's music weaves together a rich tapestry of influences, from the alt-rock of REM to the folk-punk of the Violent Femmes, with a hint of timeless classics like Simon & Garfunkel, and The Beatles. He balances rocking tunes with wry humor and philosophical touches.

Andrew Lee Mason is a multi-instrumentalist, bass and guitar (and more), and lifelong musician. He is a singer/songwriter with a warm baritone voice, and carefully crafted songs ranging from love lost to insight found.

The History of Beer: From the Stone Age to the Seattle Craft Beer Scene

Beer is the oldest known alcoholic beverage consumed by mankind. Archeologists date it to before 10,000 BCE and there is no doubt it is much older.

But how much older? How was it discovered? How was it made and what part did it play in cultures from China to Europe to Africa and the Americas? Did it really cause the agricultural revolution and the downfall of the Roman Empire?

This talk tells the fascinating story of beer from the ancient world through its heyday in medieval Europe to its modern banishment during prohibition and ends at the craft beer revolution whose epicenter was right here in the Pacific Northwest. Buckle up for a great story that is best enjoyed with a beer or two in the best beer bar in the Pacific Northwest.

Join our owner James as we close the whole bar and revel in the story of beer from the stone age to the craft beer revolution. Free beer tastings, discounted dad food and free gifts for Fathers!

Mike Coletta: COMEDY!!

Mike Coletta is a Seattle-based comedian (originally from Alaska — yes, really) who brings quick wit, high energy, and an all-around positive vibe to every stage he touches. He got his start in Pullman, Washington performing with the Nuthouse Improv Comedy Troupe, and has since performed at Bridgetown Comedy Festival, Emerald City Comicon, Treefort Fest, and Bumbershoot.

He's also the co-host of The Codex History of Video Games and HugLife podcasts, and his act is packed with honest reactions to real life, told with warmth, charm, and just the right amount of chaos.

🎙️ Featuring: Genevieve Ferrari
Toeing the line between uncomfortable and relatable, Genevieve explores the art of aging ungracefully, being a chaotic dog parent, and asking life’s big questions like: “If being petty is wrong… why does it feel so right?” They've performed internationally (Mexico, Germany, France), and at Treefort Music Fest, Seattle International Comedy Competition, and Bumbershoot. They're also a writer, actor, and accomplished script doctor — just don’t ask about their one film role that didn’t get nominated for an award (they're not bitter, we swear).

The A.I. Monologues: w/ James Whittaker

The A.I. Monologues: w/ James Whittaker

It has become fashionable to preach a dystopian AI future while simultaneously living in a human-induced dystopian present. We humans have trashed our environment, poisoned our political discourse, normalized obscene wealth and extreme poverty, raised taxes to historic levels and created the least happy generation of children on record. We have no business lecturing imaginary robots.

Our best hope at reversing our present dystopia is AI (and, yes, I have an attainable solution for eliminating taxes and resolving IP theft in one fell swoop, worth the price of admission alone). Indeed, the only dystopian future I see is one where western democracies lose the AI race to bad actors and asshat autocracies. Winning the AI race is our only hope at reversing otherwise irreversible human catastrophe. We need to invest like a mo-fo.

You’ll:

  • Hear the origin story of machine intelligence (*this* is a story for the ages)

  • Understand how machine “brains” work (don't care if you are mathy or not)

  • Envision a world where we no longer live to work and work to live (this is going to require some preparation folks)

  • Learn how wealth will be generated and governments will be funded in a post-work, post-tax world (this is the fun part)

  • Walk out of this talk with optimism for the future and a buzz from the beer
